fce for schools updateWe review and update all of our exams regularly to ensure they meet the needs of teachers and learners and reflect the latest research into language learning and assessment.  Our revision of Cambridge English: First and Cambridge English: First for Schools are now complete and the updated exams will start being used for exam sessions in January 2015.

The changes at a glance

These are the key changes to the Cambridge English: First and Cambridge English: First for Schools examination that will be introduced in January 2015.

The updated exams will:
  • have four papers instead of five. Reading and Use of English have been combined into a single paper assessing language knowledge and reading skills.
  • be approximately 30 minutes shorter than the previous examination. However, careful exam design means that the updated exams still assess at exactly the same level, and retains the same language and skills coverage as the current exam.
  • feature new tasks and testing focuses in the Writing and Speaking papers.
