with 2 comments

Diane Oliver from the Cambridge English exam centre Provadis in Frankfurt/Main, told us some more details about her work as a Centre Exams Manager.

Please introduce yourself and tell us how long you have been a Cambridge English exam centre?
My name is Diane Oliver and I run the Cambridge exam centre at Provadis in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Provadis is the largest vocational training institution in Hesse and has been an exam centre since 2005. We not only run exams in Frankfurt but also throughout the entire state of Hesse.
Provadis offers all of the vocational trainees in the business and IT occupations Cambridge English: Business Certificates preparation courses and the trainees take a Cambridge exam as part of the programme. This is how Provadis became an exam centre in the first place.

What appeals to you about being an authorized Cambridge English exam centre?
Being a Cambridge exam centre is appealing for many different reasons. Contact with the schools in Hesse is very important for us, as our institute offers a wide range of educational programmes and services and most of the applicants for these programmes are school students.  Being an English teacher myself, I personally enjoy the contact with the school teachers and running teacher training events.
Of course, the prestige of being associated with Cambridge English Language Assessment is also very appealing.

What do you think is rewarding about being a Cambridge English exam centre?
The most rewarding moment is when the candidates finish their speaking tests and come out with big smiles on their faces. You can see how they enjoy the sense of achievement in taking the exam and what a positive experience it was for them.

Why should schools offer Cambridge English exams?
External language exams are important because they are more objective than internal school language exams. The Cambridge English exams have a high degree of quality control built into the exam process. And they are produced and pre-tested by the top specialists and researchers in the field of language testing. The candidates get a fairly accurate rating of their level of English according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

What are the advantages of Cambridge English exams?
Students learn real-life English communication skills when preparing for a Cambridge exam, they gain a prestigious certificate and they have a positive exam experience.

What are the benefits of having Cambridge English certificate?
A Cambridge English certificate in your application portfolio not only demonstrates your level of English in the four language skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking – but also shows that you as a person are willing to do more than the minimum required. And it gives you personally a sense of achievement.
